Subject: FoxPro
Hi Craig,
I took some FoxPro 2.x classes from you a few years ago. I am having a problem and was
wondering if you might know a solution. I am unable to load fpw 2.6 on a new 400 mhz win
NT 4.0 machine. I get the sign on screen and than it closes. This happens in the
development area as well as when trying to run developer created FoxPro .exe's. I have
taken the steps to get rid of the divide by zero error using dkpatch. That worked fine.
This seems to be another problem. I have searched the net and can't find a solution to my
problem. Anything you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for finding me.
Patches are currently (1/3/2003) at

You can search Microsoft's downloads for
Lots of folks are trying the patches. I would claim that the upgrading to VFP 6.0 might
be the best approach - it fixes the the two speed problems with 2.6 (load and list box),
as well as any unpredicted issues that may occur as hardware and operating systems are
updated (for any reason).
With a FP 2.6 Windows app, I think the migration to Visual FoxPro 6.0 is a no-brainer.
Just do it making a minimal number of changes.
Microsoft will certainly update 6.0 over the next year if those other issues arise, but
not FoxPro 2.6.
And with the cost of computers, to continue to use 486's in a business environment is
limiting for other applications, not only FoxPro. Actually Win95 and Visual FoxPro run OK
on a 486 / 66. Just don't expect lightning performance but many operations could be as
acceptable as they were under FoxPro 2.6 Windows.
